The subdistrict town of Sonder is a recommended destination for visitors who are interested in seeing native people in Minahasa especially their culture and daily life. The easiest way to explore the town is by walking through the alleyways of Sonder town.
Most of the people of Minahasa highland work as farmers. They grow rice, corn, banana, cassava, peanuts, kangkung, cabbage, aubergine, rambutan, papaya, chilli, and etc. They also run pig, poultry and fish farming. Some farmers produce palm sugar.

In Tincep village, villagers grow flowers which usually bought by visitors who come from Manado, Bitung or Tomohon.

There are restaurant and eating houses that sell food whose ingredients are mostly from local agricultural produces. Favorite menus in Sonder include fried tilapia fish, and grilled pork. They are usually served with stir-fried kangkung vegetable or brenebon soup and spicy chilli sauce.

In certain months of the year, visitors can see various kinds of harvested crops that are being dried by farmers. There are cloves, corn that are dried under the sun. There are also wooden planks and blocks that are dried in front of houses of furnature making village in Leilem.
