Mount Mahawu is located near Tomohon town of Minahasa highland. It is a favorite destination among birdwatchers who want to see tropical birds of Sulawesi especially the ones that live in higher elevation forest.

Here are some of the many birds which visitors could find in Mount Mahawu: Sulawesi Myzomela, Warbling White-eye, Black-crowned White-eye, Crimson-crowned Flowerpecker, Yellow-sided Flowerpecker, Sulawesi Blue Flycatcher, Snowy-browed Flycatcher, Citrine Canary Flycatcher, Turquoise Flycatcher, Yellow-billed Malkoha, Sulawesi Cuckoo-dove, Superb Fruit-dove, Red Jungle Fowl, Collared Kingfisher, Scaly-breasted Kingfisher, Sulawesi Pitta, Warbling White-eye, Black-crowned White-eye, Crimson Sunbird, Sahul Sunbird, Isabelline Bush-hen, Bay Coucal, and etc.
Mount Mahawu is located near Tomohon town. Tomohon is also called the town of flower. Every year, local government and the town dwellers of Tomohon celebrate Flower Festival which attract domestic and international visitors.
Birding activity in Mount Mahawu can be extended to other areas in Minahasa highland such as Lake Linow, and Subdistrict Sonder.
